Dive in with the Omega Planet Ocean ‘Deep Black’ Collection

Taking inspiration from pioneering legends like Jacques Cousteau, Jacques Mayol and William Beebe, Omega is debuting a new dive collection, Planet Ocean ‘Deep Black’. In these new models, the watchmaker used innovative materials and production processes to revolutionize the design. The watches replica garnered a Master Chronometer rating, which accompanies all models. Certified at the industry’s highest level for precision and performance, this collection is navigating new waters in watchmaking.

The technical challenge was to produce a diving watch made entirely from ceramic and able to withstand the pressures of the ocean at a depth of 600 meters. Listed below are some additional features of the ‘Deep Black’ collection, which includes four models: all black, or with red, blue and Sedna gold accents.

1. Ceramic

The 45.5mm case of each model is crafted from a single block of ceramic. This same material is also used for the unidirectional bezel as well as the dials, which feature Arabic numerals.

2. Symbols

For the black model, Liquidmetal® is used to create the “He” symbol on the Helium valve and for the OMEGA logo on the crown. On the other models, these two features are in color using rubber injection.

3. Caseback

Omega created an oriented screw-down caseback, with patented Naiad locking system, so that the engraved wording sits in legible position. The design on the screw-down caseback also includes a wave pattern.

4. Color

At five meters, the first color that is no longer visible underwater is red. This means that this military diver’s watch will gain a camouflage advantage by gradually matching your wetsuit. Going even farther underwater, the last color visible is the exact shade of blue found on the blue-accented Deep Black model. Finally, at a depth of 300 meters, all is black.

5. Movement

The Omega Master Chronometer Caliber 8906 drives the watch. Resistant to magnetic fields at 15,000 gauss, each watch has passed the eight tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology.

The straps and bracelets have been redesigned. The traditional metal bracelet is integrated slightly differently so it sits and looks better on the wrist. The new rubber straps have been designed to look like fabric.

Other more-subtle details include new Arabic numerals, a new screw-in caseback, a new minutes track and the Master Chronometer certification that accompanies every model.
