The Modern Watch: Creations by ArtyA

Yvan Arpa has been known among watchmakers for his flair for design, willingness to take risks and his penchant for challenge. His long history in the watch industry, having worked for Baume & Mercier, Hublot, Romain Jerome and others, has given the Swiss-born Arpa a broad perspective of the watch industry. Founder and CEO of the wholly owned Artya, today he actualizes his unique genius in various and sundry designs, bringing a slice of emotion to the wrist at affordable prices.

Here Arpa talks about the Son of Sound collection, which features a patented and revolutionary guitar-shaped watchcase that he conceived in a dream. It is the culmination of three years of development, and the true-to-life tuning pegs activate the Woodstock automatic chronograph movement; hand-stretched strings cover the dial. There are a variety of pieces within the vast collection, including those from the Skull collection and those within the Pick collection. As Arpa explains, some are more conservative while others exhibit true rock star edge.

Arpa also discusses the Son of a Gun range of cheap watches replica, which is the first collection ever among timepieces to contain real bullets and cartridges. Seven different patents are registered and each 44mm or 47mm watch is manufactured in Geneva fitted with an Artya movement. There are five subcategories within the collection: Russian Roulette, Tradition, Target, Werewolf and the Son of a Gun Set.
