DUBEY & SCHALDENBRAND R92 COLUMN WHEEL CHRONOGRAPH

DUBEY & SCHALDENBRAND PROVIDES A GLIMPSE BEHIND THE SCENES

WITH THE R92 COLUMN WHEEL CHRONOGRAPH

Limited Edition 16 pieces

Over the years, independent watchmaker Dubey & Schaldenbrand has proudly curated treasured movements from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. Once again, the manufacture reaches deep into its magical vault and presents the Grand Dôme R92. This limited edition chronograph is the manifestation of Dubey & Schaldenbrand’s values as a keeper of time. The Grand Dôme R92 presents the heritage of vintage movements, the artisan craftsmanship of hand engraving, and the modern design of the Grand Dôme Case, all enveloped elegantly into the new vision of Dubey & Schaldenbrand.

Housed in a stainless steel signature tonneau shaped case, the special edition R92 movement was originally fabricated in the 1950’s, and was purchased decades ago from the predecessor of Valjoux and ETA. Since then it has been waiting patiently for its moment to shine once again. The column wheel is a distinct characteristic of the R92 chronograph movement, and features a traditional method of synchronizing the chronograph components, incorporating a unique swivel pinion design that was created by Edouard Heuer in 1886. It is also unusual in that the ratchet is on the dial side along with a crown mechanism with rocker bar.

The design and manufacturing of the column wheel movement required the most skilled hands, and to fully appreciate the craftsmanship invested in the R92, Dubey & Schaldenbrand pulls the veil on the dial to make the heart of the watch visible. The fully in- house assembled timepiece underlines the perfect collaboration of knowledge and technical development. Hand engravings, which are normally hidden behind the dial, can be appreciated to the full extent by the wearer through the sapphire crystal.

The in-house produced, micro-billage finished, anthracite grey dial provides the opening that spotlights the cacophony of complications of the skeletonized R92 movement. The R92, visible to the wearer, provides a sentiment of mastery over time. Upon winding, the movement’s various complications and components harmoniously move to the rhythm of tick and tock.

The hands and screws in this limited edition timepiece are blued steel, providing strength and contrast to the silver dressed movement, and satin finished components. The hour and minute hands provide an antique gothic look with pear shaped tips, while the vintage hand-engraved dial is a canvas upon which the blued steel truly shines.

The R92 is a truly unique piece for tonneau case connoisseurs and vintage movement collectors alike. Those valuing the art of hand engraving and vintage movements will be delighted to see Dubey & Schaldenbrand honor the classic art of watchmaking.

By combining vintage movements with state-of-the-art craftsmanship, sleek, contemporary, and pure design of the in-house produced stainless steel case, Dubey & Schaldenbrand emphasizes its philosophy of bridging the heritage and memory of its founder, Georges Dubey, with the new chapter in the brand’s history.

Given the mastery of craftsmanship, design, and the availability of the vintage movement, the R92 will be limited to 16 pieces in stainless steel.
