Basel Preview: Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Onyx

Taking a note from one of Pierre Jaquet-Droz’ greatest hits, the new Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Onyx parallel’s the brand’s 18th century mechanical excellence while propelling it into 2016 with modern technology and aesthetics.

The Grande Seconde Off-Centered Onyx also revisits one of the manufactures touchstone designs, the figure eight. Representing balance and perfection, the figure eight is illustrated with an offset seconds hand and interlocking rings.

The black onyx dial, almost liquid-like, was achieved through a multi-staged polishing process. Applied white gold rings, indicating hours, minutes and seconds, contrast the rich black for simplistic readability.

A 43 millimeter stainless steel case frames the hand-cut onyx dial and houses Jaquet Droz’ 2663A.P caliber. The mechanical, automatic movement contains 30 jewels, twin barrels, a silicon balance spring, silicon horns on a pallet fork and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Finishing the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Onyx, a black alligator leather strap with matching stainless steel folding clasp.
