Watches For Mother’s Day

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, remember what my own mother always used to say: “Every day is mother’s day.” So don’t worry if you’ve not yet bought your mom, wife or other significant woman in your life a gift. But DO worry if you haven’t considered a good watch as a perfect token of love.

This would determine whether a sport watch, a dressier watch or a transitional piece would work best. Is she trendy or classic? Reserved or boisterous? “Behavior” also influences whether or not a mechanical watch or a quartz piece would be in order. Is Mom intrigued by the inner workings of a watch, or is she the grab-and-go type who cares little about what goes on inside?

So where to begin when trying to choose from among the plethora of ladies—and unisex—watches available? I think it’s best to consider the three Bs: behavior, budget and boldness. Behavior refers to whether or not the “giftee” is the sporty type or more formal.

It’s always a good idea to do a little research via your favorite local watch purveyor. Ask questions, touch things and remember that a fine timepiece will be with you for a long time, so your decision—while not irrevocable—is important.

Leading Watch Retailer Moyer Fine Jewelers or Indiana offers a few suggestions.

For the Woman Who Has Everything
This Chopard 36mm Happy Sport Automatic in rose gold with rubies and diamonds and a mother-of-pearl dial is a great choice. “You may have a red watch, but not one like this.”

For the Executive
This Omega Ladymatic Co-Axial 34mm in steel and red gold, features a mother-of-pearl dial and diamond indexes. “This watch demands respect with the amazing co-axial caliber 8520 movement within.”

Budget is somewhat self-explanatory (it can always be stretched a bit for those we love), but boldness deserves a little commentary. Does Mom enjoy adventurous pieces, jewelry-style watches replica and métier d’art, or is her taste—and her wrist—more diminutive? Comfort and personal taste reign these days, so if the timepiece fits, wear it.
