Tudor today expands its Pelagos dive watch collection with a crown-left version that echoes Tudor dive watches replica from the 1970s and early 1980s while retaining the current Pelagos profile with in-house caliber, 42mm titanium case, black dial and black ceramic bezel. The new Tudor Pelagos LHD (Left Hand Drive) is powered by Tudor’s manufacture calibre MT5612-LHD, which debuted to much fanfare last year, but here is rotated 180-degrees so the crown fits at the left side of the case.
During the 1970s, the French Navy commissioned Tudor watches replica for left-handed divers, according to Tudor, and this new edition echoes that historic era. Tudor adds that its designers also scoured hundreds of images of French military divers of the 1950s and 1960s and found that not only did many strap a Tudor watch to their wrist, more than a few apparently left-handed frogmen also preferred to wear their watch ‘upside-down’ on the right hand in order to read the bezel setting and only the minute hand while diving. One black-and-white image from that archive shows a Tudor Reference 7924 from 1958 on the diver’s right wrist positioned to read dive time only.
This new Pelagos model offers the choice of crown location to a new era of Tudor wearers. The Pelagos LHD differs from its right-crown forebear however in several details.
The wearer will see red more often with this new model as ‘Pelagos” is printed in red on the dial. Even-numbered dates will appear in red inside the date window, while odd days will be black, a revival of the so-called roulette date function found in several vintage Tudor watches replica. Also new for Tudor, each model in this ongoing collection has a unique production number engraved in large Arabic numerals on the case back.
And finally, where last year’s Tudor Pelagos featured white bezel and dial markers, this new edition places vintage-inspired beige luminescent markings on the unidirectional ceramic rotatable bezel and on the dial. The lume itself however is blue, which is the final color divers can see as they submerge.
For many divers, the Tudor titanium bracelet’s steel folding clasp is among the simplest and most precise available, and Tudor retains that outstanding adjustable spring mechanism with this new model. Divers appreciate the system, which allows the bracelet to be adjusted during the dive, contracting when compressed at greater depths and expanding when the pressure decreases again during the diver’s return to the surface. An additional rubber strap is also provided, equipped with an extension system that makes it easily adjustable for all diving conditions.
