Summer Polo with Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre and polo go hand-in-hand, and this summer is an exciting one for the watchmaker’s involvement with the sport. At the end of June, Jaeger-LeCoultre sponsored the British Open Polo Championship and in July, the watchmaker partnered with players to customize Reverso models, a watch that was originally created for polo.

2016 marks a decade for Jaeger-LeCoultre as the Official Timekeeper for the Cowdray Park Polo Club. And since 2015, the brand has also served as the title sponsor of the competition. The watchmaker takes their job seriously, considering the sport and company share a rich history with polo. In 1931, the Reverso watch was created in response to a request from British colonial officers in India who were tired of damaging their timepieces during matches.

An idea that was introduced at SIHH 2016 this past January was the idea of personalization at Jaeger-LeCoultre. This idea has overtaken the watch world and is exciting customers, since the possibilities are endless. Clare Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven has been a friend of the brand since 2004. She has competed in every level of professional polo. She chose the Reverso Classic Duetto Medium in pink gold that features a second face on the back providing space for even more personalization.

Containing two dials and a double set of hands driven by one movement, the watch appeals with its elegance. The watch is adorned in subtle shades of blue. When the case pivots, the timepiece appears in a completely different light. At the heart of the blue dial, the watch is adorned with paillons and the night blue oscillating weight can be admired in action. Two rows of diamonds magnify this face evoking the celestial vault.

The final touch to the watch is a night blue calfskin strap that reminds the wearer of polo player’s boots and perfectly works with the pink gold case.

Astrada has visited the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux numerous times and was excited to personalize his own timepiece with the watchmaker. The brushed and guilloché front dial with its clear-cut lines and classic design already features subtle details that invite observers to discover the player’s history. The burgundy-toned La Aguada inscription and minute track echo the colors of his team. On the back, the reference is further accentuated with a burgundy-lacquered dial. The second face is equipped with a dual-time indication, making the Reverso Classic Large Duoface the ideal timepiece to accompany the player in his matches.
