Louis Moinet Black Gold Derrick

Three years after the first edition of Derrick tourbillons, the watch takes a new turn with the introduction of the Black Gold Derrick.

The original spirit of the piece, redolent of the world of oil, remains intact. The watch’s entire movement represents the drilling process. A drive shaft sits on the right of the dial, between 2 and 4 o’clock. This powers a long articulated arm, known as the walking beam, between 10 and 2 o’clock. At its left-hand end is the oblong-shaped ‘head’, the most striking visual characteristic of a derrick.

Echoing the black gold depicted as running through the watch, the bridges are made from black PVD. The plate is also completely new, as is the barrel cover. This now offers a view from above of the spring.

On the dial, two central rhodium-plated hands display the time. The bridges are all hand-finished, featuring pearled décor on the plate and the derrick bridge.

The Black Gold Derrick is a limited edition of 28 pieces.

About Louis Moinet
Ateliers Louis Moinet was founded in Saint-Blaise, Neuchâtel, in 2004. The fully-independent firm was established to honour the memory of Louis Moinet (1768-1853): master watchmaker, certified inventor of the chronograph (1816), and pioneer in the use of very high frequencies (216,000 vibrations per hour). Louis Moinet was a watchmaker, scholar, painter, sculptor and teacher at the School of Fine Arts – as well as the author of Traité d’Horlogerie, a watchmaking treatise published in 1848 that remained a definitive work of reference for almost a century. Ateliers Louis Moinet is perpetuating this legacy.
