Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry Launches “Grammium” Timepiece for 56th Annual Grammy Awards

SANTA MONICA, California, January 14, 2014 – Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry announces the launch of the Gucci GRAMMY® Special Edition Interlocking watch with a dial made of GRAMMIUM®, the very same material used to forge the iconic trophy statuette in the shape of a gramophone — the GRAMMY Award®.

The new Gucci GRAMMY Special Edition Interlocking watch is a further celebration of the partnership between the House and The Recording Academy®, now in its fourth year. The watch is a variant of the Interlocking collection, which features a sleek and modern take on the House’s GG interlocking motif. Available in two sizes (42mm and37mm), the watch comes with a black polished and brushed PVD case, a snapped case back with GRAMMY Awards® logo and a yellow sun-brushed dial made with GRAMMIUM.

The lengthy process of creating a GRAMMY Award is derived from a tradition that is hundreds of years old. The statuette is cast out of GRAMMIUM — a custom alloy, developed by John Billings, the craftsman who creates, by hand, the lustrous gold gramophone statue that is presented to GRAMMY recipients.

In 2010, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry began its partnership with The Recording Academy, organizers of the world-renowned GRAMMY Awards, launching a GRAMMY special edition watch and jewelry collection. The partnership has provided for a series of initiatives celebrating Gucci’s commitment to support the music community, to preserve its heritage and to foster the growth of young talents.
