The Récital 18 Shooting Star® was created by Bovet 1822 and DIMIER 1738 Manufacture as a challenge to center a watch around the two stars that define time, the earth and the moon.
Included on the watch are the 24 time zones, daylight regions and moon phases. Since only half of the earth’s surface is visible at any given time, Bovet represented the entire globe in a single hemisphere. A cartographer was commissioned to design this atypical 3D map of the world and the entire Earth’s surface is visible without changing perspective.
The 46mm 18K red or white gold case is powered by the 17DM01-HU Caliber hand-wound movement. Functions include a 5-day tourbillon, jumping hours and retrograde minutes. To drive all of the complications two barrels generate the power reserve which is all controlled by the tourbillon balance oscillating at 21,600 vph. The tourbillon features a triple-seconds hand, very much unusually placed under the tourbillon. The carriage and tourbillon bridges are hand-engraved, despite the small amount of surface area.
The watch is a 50-piece limited edition. Patents on the watch include a display mechanism with radial guidance and a control mechanism for horological movement.
